  • 1813 George III Gold 'Military' Guinea ()
1813 George III Gold 'Military' Guinea

The 1813 'Military' guinea was the last guinea date to be issued. The coin was specially minted by the British government to pay armed forces fighting in the Napoleonic Wars, as many people at the time were very reluctant to accept any form of paper money, hence the term 'Military' guinea. Approximately 80,000 guineas were minted in 1813, making the coin a very scarce piece.
The guinea weighs 8.4 grams, and is made of solid 22 carat gold (Gold fineness of 0.916). It had a value of 21 shillings - £1 and 5p in decimal money!
